What is hidden in the dust

Har dammat några gamla böcker i min bokhylla och tillåtit mig inspireras.

Have dusted some old books in my bookcase and allowed me inspiration.

My kind of book

It really is! Finally I had the time. You have to give this inspiring book, where Camilla Engman shows her work and life, plenty of time. I discover new things everytime I open it.

In to scary now...

In my search for something new in my work, I think I´m going to let me be inspired by the dark... Try to make scary pictures, still with a touch of naivism. I´ll see if it is possible to combine it with my funny simpel retro style :-)
Who does´nt like Edgar Allan Poe stories?! The English illustrator Aubrey Beardsley, who also illustrated for Oscar Wilde, illustrated Poe´s books.

Not to forget late artist Edward Gorey, who´s work seems to be inspired by these nineteenth-century artists.

Something new from Danish Woven Flesh, comes illustrated shirts inspired by the great Poe.

One of my favorite artists is Dave McKean, who made the wonderful book about Mr Punch, amongst others, written by Neil Gaiman. His work mix photo with drawings wonderfully.

Note: Have to try...

Back in Stockholm filled with impressions

After two days at the Göteborg Book Fair and two tired feets later, I have arrived to Stockholm. It was the first visit for me, the book fair, and I think I did´nt thought it whould be so crowded.

It was nice to see the display area on which Vilda Publishing (Vilda Förlag) showed the books I´ve illustrated.

There was a lot of things to see and do and as many I strolled around, new meetings and also listening to interviews with authors. Unfortuned I missed one seminar that I really would have liked to see – Stian Hole, a Norwegian illustrator. But I did meet him later at the publisher, when he was signing books. So now I have two copys of his book "Hermans sommar".

I found some inpiring books, both new and second-hand as well...

Latest addition in my shelf

I love our bookcase. Seriously, I do'nt know what to do when I add a book on the last space on this shelf?! However, there are still room for a few more. And the latest discovery on the Amazon are my two new favorites.

Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life

The great illustrator Charley Harper (1922-2007) appears in a new book. Edited and designed by Todd Oldham. Big colour posters with all his beautifully illustrated animals and birds and a lot of other illustrations too. This huge book can only be fitted on the living room table, that is if you want to take it out of it's lovely graphic box :-)

Now and then you might come across some books of his in second-hand bookshops, like this biology book.

Tord Boontje

Inspiring pictures of Tord Boontje work and paper cuts. The pages in the book are perforated, a nice surprise.
